Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
